Oily skin is the result of the overproduction of sebum (or skin oil) from sebaceous glands. These glands are located under the skin’s surface.
Sebum is an oily substance made of fats. Sebum isn’t all bad since it helps protect and moisturise your skin (part of your natural skin barrier) and keep your hair shiny and healthy.
Too much skin oil leads to oily skin, which can lead to clogged pores and acne (including blackheads and whiteheads). Genetics, hormone changes, dehydration or even stress may increase skin oil production and make your skin feels even more oily.
Most acne sufferers have the oily skin type.

Skincare and beauty hacks for oily skin:
- Avoid harsh, stripping cleansers or soap - over-stripping your skin will make your skin makes more oil to compensate!
- Use gentle cleansers, morning and evenings only - if your skin gets oily during the day simply cleanse off sweat and extra oil with clean water.
- Do not use exfoliators or scrubs if you have active acne lesions - it will cause further damages to your skin.
- Use a French green clay mask 1-2 times a week.
- Avoid oily sunscreen
- Use extra light skin hydrator to prevent clog pores.
